Children’s Support Services:
Providing a System of Care for Young Children with Challenging Behavior

Children’s Support Services is a mental health system of care for young children (ages 2 – 6) who exhibit significant emotional or behavioral difficulties and who are at risk of suspension or expulsion from their early education and care program. The primary goal of this model is to provide an individualized package of supports and services that stabilize the child’s behavior in his/her child care setting so that learning can take place.

Children’s Support Services has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, the Association for Childhood Education International, and the Children’s Defense Fund.

The Global Café Cookbook

It’s a cookbook. It’s a learning experience. Through the preparation of an eclectic assortment of meals, snacks, and desserts children learn about other cultures, the importance of measurements and mathematics in daily life, family values, and critical language/ communication skills. The recipes contained in this collection come from many different cultures, including Chappatis (a fried bread from India), Sweet Pea soup (from East Africa), Salsa Cruda and Frijoles (from Mexico), and Falafel, Sticky Rice, and Monte-caditos (a butter cookie from Puerto Rico).

“These activities could be integrated easily into our whole language and global studies curriculum.”
