Curriculum alignment makes it possible to gauge what we want children to know and be able to do and to measure the effectiveness of what we teach in classrooms.
The goal of curriculum alignment is to align instruction and assessment practices into a coherent system using the Common Core, Early Learning Development Standards and Guidelines as tools to ensure that all children are presented with opportunities for learning across content areas and developmental domains.
ECA’s professional development around curriculum alignment helps to answer essential questions as:
- How are content areas addressed within scheduled classroom routines and activities?
- What opportunities are planned for teachers to explicitly teach concepts in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Technology/Engineering, History and Social Science, Health Education, and the Arts?
- What opportunities are available in the classroom and in routines to help children construct new knowledge and skills across content areas and developmental domains?
